Experimental and numerical investigation on the chemical osmotic and poroelastic behaviors of mudstone

Mudstone is supposed to behave as suitable caprock due its low permeability, and also known show semipermeable membrane characteristics. Therefore, better understandings on the coupled processes among groundwater flow, solute transport, deformation of mudstone are highly warranted. In this study, laboratory-scale experiment was conducted by using a sample collected from Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. The which saturated with NaCl concentration solution in contact higher solution, circumferential strains were measured fiber-optic strain sensor. About 150 με contractional observed applying ca. 15g/L difference. Type curves explain transient behavior developed numerical model can handle chemical osmotic poroelastic behaviors, it found that, except for latter stage experiment, behaviors quite well fit type curves. It possible estimate some physical properties fitting result.
